It's the realization of Bonnie Tann's lifelong dream.

It's always endearing to see someone finally fulfill a lifelong dream. Such is the case with Bonnie Tann, a retired nurse who recently attended culinary school and just yesterday softly opened her eponymous bakery, Bonnie B.

The South LA eatery bakes artisan breads and a variety of croissants, but the specialty is Bonnie's signature lemon twist cake, a baked lemon cake that receives a crispy coating of glaze to resemble a doughnut.

Bonnie intends for her bakery to be a sort of one-stop shop for baked goods. With a smattering of lunch offerings like chicken pot pies and sandwiches, plus that serious custom cake program, Bonnie B should be the place for a quick savory or sweet treat.

CJ's Cafe

Looking for just the basics, well stop into CJ’s for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Conveniently located in the Baldwin Hills Shopping Center near La Brea and Coliseum cuisine ranges from the South to South of the Border . Breakfast is my favorite meal and sometimes I really enjoy just the basics, some eggs, grits and pancakes, there is plenty of good eating here, with great portions sizes.  You can also enjoy Mexican breakfast favorites such as Huevos Rancheros, Chilaquiles or anything in between. CJ’s Café is a casual environment and for your convenience serves breakfast all day.

If you are in the mood for lunch or dinner, you can take your pick from a variety of entrees.

Lunch:

If you’re in the mood of burritos, burgers, tortas, sandwiches or salads take your pick. Whether you are craving a hot sandwich on a cold day, enjoy Patty Melt, Tuna Melt, BLT, Chicken breast (grilled or fried) or the basic Grilled Cheese.  A bevvy of cold sandwiches are offered as well, bite into a delicious

Dinner:

If you want dinner come early, CJ’s Café closes at 6pm. But when you arrive enjoy any of these delicious meals that range from southern style

If you’re craving a southern style dinner, try one the following entrees: Catfish, Red Snapper, Pork Chops, Oxtails, Short Ribs any of these entrees can be enjoyed with two sides and either a cornbread muffin or a  dinner role.  Some side orders to choose from are: black eyed peas, candied yams, cauliflower, broccoli, corn, white rice, mixed vegetables, collard greens, macaroni & cheese, and mashed potatoes. If you are feeling a little more south of the border treat your palate to savory fajitas – your choice of beef, chicken or steak served with a generous portion of rice and beans. Post & Beam

Have you visited Post & Beam lately?

It’s been two years since restaurateur Brad Jonson opened up this community gem featuring California seasonal favorites. That’s right, dishes that are cooked and seasoned with the freshest ingredients that are grown right here in California, most from the on-site garden located on the outskirts of the patio seating area and the South Central Farmers’ Cooperative.  Executive Chef and partner Govind Armstrong will tickle your culinary palate with delight with clever twist on your traditional favorites. Whether it’s Brunch (only served on the weekends), Lunch, and Dinner you are sure to find a meal to suit your appetite.

Brunch ranges from traditional brunch staples such as bottomless Mimosas, and griddle favorites such as buttermilk pancakes, biscuits and gravy, or if you’re feeling experimental try their “poached egg cornbread benedict” It’s sure to delight the senses.

Lunch delights range from a variety of salads, sandwiches and homemade hand stretched pizzas or if you’re craving a larger saving which can enjoy fried catfish served with your choice of daily sides or bite into savory Grilled Short Rib medallions, pair any lunch pairing with a refreshing glass of homemade lemonade, regular or strawberry, strawberries from the on-site garden.

Happy Hour is a must for young professionals, so grab a seat at the bar, have a few snacks and enjoy a glass of the house red or white wine, any of the draft beers or check out the specialty cocktail of the week for a special treat.

Whether it’s a business lunch, date night or girl’s night out Post and Beam will your suit your needs for any occasion, with its enchanting environment, pull up a stool at the bar and partake in Happy Hour or have a seat in the dining room area, or outdoor patio dining area, my personal favorite.  So as you kick-off the Spring season, hop into Post and Beam and try their shrimp and grits, buttermilk fried chicken, turkey meatball pizza or my personal lunch favorite shaved short rib grilled cheese with kale chips. Yummy, now that’s Cali eating!!
